Academy (Day 10) - The first half of the day was spent in class hours on electrical with Kris Wallen. We focused mainly on the charging systems off the solar panels. The details of the system were more in depth during this class. AC and DC power coming from your source into a charge controller can then become confusing if you are not used to working DC setups, so understanding the function of DC electrical is critical. In order to practice we broke up into groups with the task of assembling a simple power inverter setup.
Next we were shuttled off to view 2 of the main rental Earthships.. Of which one is the Phoenix (no pics shown) and this one has to be the most ornate and detailed Earthship in the community. The pictures will not do justice to the craftmanship of this home and is well worth the tour if you can get it.. we should be getting a second tour as this place needed an hour or two just to enjoy. I will take better pics then.
We followed up with a few hours back at the ‘S-Pod’ (Simple Survival) build site. Basically, competed the first ‘Bird Cage’ assembly for one of the roof lines and put it in place.
